Working in Cardiff
Cardiff’s rich culture has a diverse range of influences, from
the Romans and Normans of antiquity through to the industrial
revolution and the coal industry - which transformed Cardiff from a
small town into a thriving, international city. More
recently, Cardiff has been chosen as one of 13 favourites worldwide
in the Frommer’s Guide list of top destinations for 2008. The city
is described as "a city transformed" that has "reinvented itself
and is now a thriving cosmopolitan centre with an ancient Welsh
heart".
Cardiff Bay is now a thriving waterside development, and the
construction of the Millennium Stadium in the city centre helped
transformed Cardiff into a true European capital city. The
stadium is arguably the best in Britain and was built for the 1999
Rugby World Cup. In 2005 Cardiff celebrated its centenary as
a city and 50 years as capital of Wales (and enjoyed a year-long
calendar of events, festivals and parties which marked the double
anniversary). It is generally viewed as a stylish town that has
gained in confidence since the recent establishment of the Welsh
Assembly (devolved power for Wales). It also has the best shopping
in Wales and the National Museum and Gallery is one of the jewels
in Cardiff’s crown.
Cardiff Castle stands impressively in the heart of the city and
is now a popular tourist attraction (the Roman's first established
a fort at this site in AD55 and it is from here that Cardiff has
evolved). It sits in the expansive grounds of Bute Park and the
castle has hosted a number of rock concerts and performances and
has the capacity to accommodate over 10,000 people. Fusion
Workshop's offices are only a few hundred yards from the Castle,
the Stadium and city centre parks.
