Girlguiding UK
Girlguiding UK – the largest youth
organisation for girls in the UK – is changing the way it
communicates with its 500,000 membership with the help of a new
online strategy from Fusion Workshop.
Fusion Workshop is already working on the
project using the enterprise content management system (CMS) from
Immediacy. When it is complete, Girlguiding UK will be able
to share content between sites automatically, manage micro-sites
alongside the main membership, public and youth sites, run blogs
and message boards and manage content and distribution of its
e-newsletters. The sites will each have their own branding
and search options, and will all be fully compliant with the latest
guidelines on accessibility and security.
Consultant Andrew Lambert of MCL helped
Girlguiding UK create and manage the evaluation process that
resulted in the appointment of Fusion Workshop and
Immediacy. “Basic requirements were that the new web
sites had to meet certain standards on workflow, usability,
functionality and ‘developability’ for the future,” says
Lambert. “Plus, the chosen web partner had to be a good fit
with the organisation in terms of its customer care and quality
standards.”
Girlguiding UK had a relatively advanced
bespoke CMS in place, and the organisation had invested in
content-rich web sites as an efficient way of making information
available widely.
There were new rules on accessibility, and a
pressing need to integrate the membership database with the online
resource in order to manage communications more
efficiently.
The project is planned for completion by the
second quarter of 2009. It will be carried out in phases such
that the in-house team will be able to gradually migrate content
across to the new CMS, starting with the main membership site.

“We chose Fusion Workshop as our web partners for
the depth of experience they bring to the project. And we chose
Immediacy because, after a detailed evaluation of the options, we
found it to be the only CMS that could do everything we needed
straight out of the box.”
